Ventura Men and Santa Barbara Women Widen Lead on Day Two

Ventura, CA — The Ventura College Men's Swim and the Santa Barbara City College Women's Swim teams widen their leads on day two at the 2015 Western State Conference Swimming Championships at the Ventura Aquatics Center.

 Santa Barbara started the day off by winning the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:52.73. On the men's side, none other than Ventura won the ensuing event with a time of 1:35.94. In the 400 IM Santa Barbara's Rachelle Visser set the conference mark in that event with a time of 4:34.30, beating the second place finisher by just under 18 seconds. Ventura's Kaleb Rodarte meanwhile won the men's side with a time of 4:23.63. 

In the 100 Fly Cuesta's Racheal Gruetzmacher took the title with a time of 58.66, while Ventura won again on the men's side as Christopher Sands posted a time of 51.88 seconds. In the 200 Free, Cuesta's Haylee Mariucci picked up critical points for the Cougars with a time of 1:59.36. Santa Monica picked up a win on the men's side of 200 as Gabriel Martinez won with a time of 1:41.52. 

Allan Hancock's Leanna Bramble repeated in the 100 Breast, finishing with a time of 1:07.75, while Santa Monica got another win when Brandon Saliba won with a time of 59.11. Cuesta women picked up another victory in the 100 Back when Molly Casey won with a time of 1:03 flat. Ventura got back on the winners board in the same event thanks to Mitchell Ongstad's time of 51.48. 

The swimming ended with the 800 Free Relay. On the women's side, Bakersfield College, which came into the event with a seed time of 8:34.74, cut 18 seconds off that time and posted a time of 8:16.45 to claim the win. Ventura won the men's side with a time of 7:10.59. 

The women's 3 Meter diving results and men's 1 Meter diving results were also added to the day's total. Alexis Kearns of College of the Canyons won the 3 Meter event, while Serzh Yeranyan of Los Angeles Valley won the 1 Meter event. 

With one day to go, Santa Barbara has accumulated 366 points, and leads second place Cuesta College by 89 points. Ventura meanwhile has taken a 118 point lead over Cuesta on the men's side.
