Santa Monica’s Jovic Sweeps Women’s Tennis Singles and Doubles

Santa Monica College's Mayra Jovic swept the  2015 Western State Conference Women's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships this past weekend. Jovic won the singles title and then turned around and won the doubles title with partner Izabel Nazdracheva. 

 Jovic cruised to the 2015 singles title dropping just five games over the course of five matches. Jovic never lost more than two games in a single set and won the Championship Match over Glendale College's Yuka (Amy) Shigenaga 6-0, 6-0. 

In doubles play, Jovic and Nazdracheva, the #1 seeds in the tournament, faced some stiff competition, but rallied along the way. The duo opened up with a 8-0 pro-set win in the second round after earning a first round bye. In the quarterfinals, Jovic and Nazdracheva won 6-1, 6-3, before winning 6-2, 6-2 in the semi-finals. In the Championships, took on the #2 seed from Glendale College in Anna Benitez and Meredy Gharabeghi. The pair of Glendale gave the duo from Santa Monica their toughest test all weekend, but Jovic and Nazdracheva prevailed 6-3, 6-3.
