SMC’s Jovic Wins Second Career Singles Title; Glendale’s Ono & Galstyan Claim Doubles Title

Ventura, CA - Santa Monica College sophomore Mayra Jovic came up just shy of becoming the first player in recent Western State Conference Women's Tennis history to win two conference singles and doubles title. Jovic came up with a pair of singles titles, but fell along with partner and freshman Abby Mullins to Glendale College sophomores Veronica Galstyan and Tsukimi Ono in the doubles championship match. 

 Jovic, the #1 overall seed, literally cruised into the semi-finals match of the singles draw, losing a total of three games in her first three matches of the tournament. Jovic's toughtest test came in the semi-finals where she faced #6 Haily McNall of Glendale, who pushed her to a tie breaker in the second set, before Jovic prevailed 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). In the championship match Jovic regained form and knocked off her teammate and 12th seeded Srna Lepchevska 6-0 and 6-0.

On the doubles side, Jovic and and Mullins entered as the #1 overall seed and proved why winning their first three matches 8-0, 8-1, and 6-2, 6-0. Ono and Galstyan meanwhile came in as the #2 overall seed, and flexed similar muscle getting to the championship match after scores of 8-0, 8-4, and 6-1, 6-0 in the semi-finals. In the Championship Match, Jovin and Mullins won a tough first set 7-6. Ono and Galstyan simply came back too strong in the final two sets however, defeating the #1 seeded pair 6-1 and 6-1.
