Moorpark and Ventura Split Top Volleyball Awards in WSC North

Moorpark College freshmen outside hitters Janessa Valoaga and Lily Karamanukyan were named the WSC North Players of the Year, while Ventura College's freshman libero Leslie Perez was honored with Libero of the Year honors. Rounding out the top awards were Moorpark Head Coach Adam Black and Ventura College Head Coach Brad Lyans who shared the Coach of the Year nod.

Valoaga and Karamanukyan were the anchors of the second most prolific offensive team in the entire WSC, and the top team in the WSC North. The Raiders averaged 12.14 kills per set and recorded 127 blocks on the season. Valoaga averaged 3.60 kills per set, while converting .303 percent of her attempts, adding 13 blocks for good measure. Karamanukyan posted a 3.54 kill per set mark, a .221 kill percentage, and had 15 blocks this past year.

Perez finished second in the entire WSC with 353 digs this past season, averaging 5.19 per set (the third best mark in the entire WSC). She eclipsed the 20 digs mark in 10 matches this season, and had a season high 32 in a three set loss to Imperial Valley early in the season,

Black led the Raiders to their second WSC North title in his three seasons in charge of Moorpark. The Raiders went 16-4 overall this season going a perfect 10-0 in conference play. Moorpark would go on to be seeded #5 in the CCCAA Southern California Playoffs, sweeping Pasadena City College in the first round, before dropping a tough one to El Camino College in four sets in the Regional Finals.

For Ventura, Lyans earned his third Coach of the Year award after guiding the Pirates to a 13-9 overall mark and 8-2 record in WSC North play.
