Vaqueros Remain Perfect With Fourth Conference Title

Glendora, CA - The Santa Barbara City College Women's Water Polo program remained perfect this past weekend with their fourth straight Western State Conference title. It's the fourth straight title in four years of existence for the program, who has yet to finish lower than 1st place in the final WSC standings.

The Vaqueros marched to the championships game after a bye in the opening round of the tournament with a 16-4 win over #5 seeded Ventura College in the semi-finals. That pit Santa Barbara against #2 seed Citrus College, who defeated #3 Cuesta College 10-3 in the semi-finals.

In the championship game, Santa Barbara took early control of the contest with a 4-2 first quarter. The Owls tried to rally early in the second, cutting their deficit to one after a score by Citrus' Chloe Barrocas made it 4-3, but the Vaqueros closed out the half with a pair of goals by Halie Johnson and a score by Emma Fraser to take a 7-3 lead into the break.

The four goal lead would prove to be enough for Vaqueros down the stretch, as the two teams equaled the output of the other in the final 16 minutes of regulation. In the 10-6 win, SBCC's Emma Fraser finished with a game high six goals.
