Glendale Sweeps ’17 WSC Team Titles; GC’s Lopez & Oxnard’s Valencia Win Individual Titles

Bakersfield, CA - For the 13th time in program history, the Glendale College Women's and Men's Cross Country team's swept the team championships at the 2017 Western State Conference Cross Country Championships at Kern County Soccer Complex in Bakersfield College. Six of the seven women's scorers and five out of the seven men's scorers posted Top 20 finishes for the Vaqueros. Individuals Glendale's Raymond Lopez won the individual crown, while Oxnard College's Briana Valencia won the women's crown.

On the women's side, Valencia paced the pack with a time of 18:18.8, besting second place Emma Player of Moorpark College who had a time of 18:26.7. Glendale's Angelica Salas rounded out the top three with a time of 18:33.9. As a team, Glendale totaled 44 points, beating College of the Canyons who had 70 points. The Vaqueros posted an average time of 19:21 and a total time of 1:36.49.

For the men, Lopez finished the course in a time of 20:08. Lopez was trailed by Santa Monica's Cesar Gatete who finished with a time of 20:23, and teammate Phillip Thomas who posted a time of 20:33. As a team, the Vaqueros finished with 42 points, besting Ventura College's 86 points. Their average finishing time was 20:52, and Glendale posted a total time of 1:44.20.

The following team's and individuals qualified for the 2017 Southern California Championships will take place at Central Park in Santa Clarita.
