Men's Soccer Falls in Season Opener

MOORPARK — College of the Canyons finally got its season underway on Tuesday, suffering a 2-0 road loss at Moorpark College.
Canyons (0-1) had been scheduled to begin play on Aug. 23 at Taft College but saw that game postponed due to a combination of transportation related issues.
Instead, the Cougars took the field fo the first time behind a starting lineup that included: Diego Briseno, Garrett Carillo, Jeffrey Contreras, Christian Lanzas-Castillo, Leon Mikailian, Cristopher Chavez, Gage Fritz, Christian Hanson, Manuel Martinez, Steven Garcia and goalkeeper Hunter Maiden.
Moorpark (1-1) took a 2-0 lead into halftime with an opening goal in the 23rd minute and a second score in the 31st minute.
Maiden (0-1) suffered the loss for Canyons after recording a pair of saves in the match.
Canyons posted six shots, all in the first half, with neither side earning a corner quick.
Up next, the Cougars travel south to take on San Diego City College at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30.
The road games continue with a trip back north to College of the Sequoias at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3.
COC then hosts Lemoore College in its home opener Friday, Sept. 6. First touch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. That game is being broadcast live to fans free of charge via the Cougars Sports Network.
