Antelope Wins First WSC Divisional Title
The Antelope Valley College Softball team completed a perfect 18-0 Western State Conference East Division campaign and won its first ever Western State Conference divisional title. The Marauders capped off an undefeated conference season with an epic comeback in a double-header with second place Citrus College last Monday.
The Marauders controlled their destiny in 2017 and wrapped up their first WSC crown since joining the conference in 2014 prior to the end of the season. Antelope did need up until the very end to become the first undefeated WSC East (previously known as WSC Blue and WSC South), since 2013, and just the third since the conference split into two divisions in 1998. In the final game of the regular season, Antelope Valley trailed Citrus College on AVC's home field by eight runs headed into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Marauders proceeded to score nine runs with one out to pull off the comeback and undefeated crown.
Antelope Valley College finished the regular season 33-5 and on a 25 game win streak. The Marauders were granted the #6 overall seed in the CCCAA Southern California Playoffs, and will host #11 Santa Ana College this coming weekend in the regional round. Two other WSC East teams will represent the division in post-season play, with #9 College of the Canyons headed to #8 Southwestern College, and #10 Citrus College at #7 Cerritos College this weekend.
