
Canyons Wins Women's Golf Team Title; So Takes Individual Crown
Pasadena, CA -- The 2014 Western State Conference regular season came to a close recently at Brookside #2 Golf Course in Pasadena. College of the Canyons ran away with the team title, while Citrus College freshman Lexandra So won the individual championship, the first in the school's history.
Pasadena, CA -- The 2014 Western State Conference regular season came to a close recently at Brookside #2 Golf Course in Pasadena. College of the Canyons ran away with the team title, while Citrus College freshman Lexandra So won the individual championship, the first in the school's history.
College of the Canyons built themselves a large lead after the first day of competition. The Cougars posted a team score of 344 after the first round, 38 strokes better than the next best team on that first day Citrus College. On day two, Canyons didn't let up as they cut six strokes with a 338. Santa Barbara City College moved into second place on the second day, while the Owls of Citrus fell back six strokes. In the end the Cougars won it running away as the Vaqueros of Santa Barbara finished in second place.
Individually, So herself won the championship nearly running away. So was the lone golfer to crack 80 on the first day of competition with a 77, five strokes better than Tiffany Whittaker of College of the Canyons and her teammate at Citrus Jamie Lopez. On the second day, So fired a 73, for a two day total of 150, besting Whittaker who finished a strong second place, and Lopez who wound up in third.
