Bakersfield Sweeps WSC South Awards

The Bakersfield College Women's Volleyball program swept the 2016 Western State Conference South Division Awards after claiming their first championship in seven years and their seventh title all. Player of the Year, Libero of the Year, and Coach of the Year all went to members of the Bakersfield program as sophomore Mackenzie Hernandez, sophomore Hannah Pope, and Head Coach Carl Ferreira were bestowed with the honors.

 Hernandez earned the Player of the Year award after being named a 1st team All-WSC South selection as a freshman. In her sophomore campaign. Hernandez finished with 152 kills, 178 digs, 41 blocks, and a .247 kill percentage. Pope meanwhile tallied 403 digs, fourth most in the entire WSC, and averaged 4.11 digs per set, which was sixth among all WSC athletes.

Ferreira meanwhile picked up his third overall Coach of the Year award after leading Bakersfield to their seventh overall championship. It was also the Renegades' first undefeated season in conference play since 1997, and just their second in their long Western State Conference history.
