Glendale Women; Canyons Men Win WSC Championships

Whittier, CA -- The Glendale College Women and the College of the Canyons Men took home the 2015 Western State Conference Championships over this past weekend. The Lady Vaqueros won in impressive fashion, taking home five of the top six individual finishes, while the Cougars were nearly as dominating by taking five of the top seven individual finishes.

Glendale sophomore Crystal Morales took home the Women's 5K individual championship, finishing the course in a time of 18:21.29. College of the Canyons freshman Jessica Ruiz was the second runner through the chute with a time of 18:16.81, while Morales' teammates Stacy Macias (18:29.27), Leana Setian (18:42.41), Giselle Masedo (18:44.02), and Brenda Sanchez (18:46.30) rounded out the top six.

Glendale totaled a miniscule 19 points on the afternoon, beating second place College of the Canyons who totaled 38. Citrus College came in third place with the team's best ever WSC finish, edging fourth place Cuesta College by six points. It's the 10th straight conference title for the Vaqueros and their 19th overall.

On the men's side, Glendale sophomore Vahagn Isayan paced the pack with a first place finish and time of 19:30.79. It's the fastest time in Western State Conference Championship history. After Isayan, Canyons sophomore Ethan Walker clocked a time of 19:37.19, followed by Ventura sophomore Sam Boyle (19:53.66). After that it was four Cougars in Alejandro Bernal (19:58.35), Jason Hillquist (20:06.61), Nick Liebmann (20:11.13), and Arnold Bautista (20:12.24).

For Canyons, they tallied 24 points to beat second place Glendale College who totaled up 56 points. Cuesta College rounded out the top three with 121 points. It's the third straight conference title for the Cougars and their fourth overall.
