
Cuesta Sweeps Individual Titles While Glendale Takes Team Titles at 2016 WSC Championships
Oxnard, CA - Cuesta College was home to the 2016 Men’s and Women’s Individual Western State Conference Champions, while Glendale College earned the 2016 Men’s and Women’s Team Championships. It’s the 10th straight team title for the Glendale Women, while the Glendale Men snapped a three year streak by College of the Canyons.

Cuesta College's sophomore Sean McDermott was in the individual men's winner, posting a time of 20:31.11, outpacing Glendale College sophomore Shane Thompson who posted a time of 20:49.81. West Los Angels College rounded out the podium as freshman Alex Gomez came in third with a time of 20:59.65. It's the fourth individual championship for a Cuesta runner overall, and the second in the last three years.
On the team side, Glendale's five scoring runners all finished in the Top 10, coming in 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, and 9th places for a total score of 27. Cuesta was second with 86 points, while Santa Barbara City College finished just eight points behind in third place.
On the women's side, freshman Miranda Daschian continued her dominate 2016, outstepping Glendale College sophomore Giselle Masedo by 1.44 seconds to claim the Cougars four overall individual women's title and first since 2013. Glendale College's Leana Setian would round out the Top 3, breaking the tape in a time of 18:498.63.
Much like the men, the women dominated the team side of the competition with all five scoring runners coming in the Top 10, finishing in 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 9th, and 10th places for a total of 30 points. College of the Canyons was second with 87 points, just edging Cuesta College, who had 89 points.
All three teams along with a slew of others will continue their post-season on Friday November 4th in Orange, CA. The first race is set for a 11:00 AM start at Irvine Regional Park.
