WSC South All-Conference Honorees Announced, GC's Weiss Picks Up Coach of the Year

Superlative awards winners for the 2024 Western State Conference (South), along with the all-conference honorees, have been announced. The honorees were chosen by the WSC South coaches at the conclusion of the regular season. 

Katherine Goostrey (Citrus) and Cierra Steemer (Antelope Valley) split the Most Outstanding Player awards. Goostrey, a freshman guard, led the Owls and the league, while ranking 18th in the state with an 18.9 points per game average. She scored in double figures in all but two games and had three games where she grabbed double-digit rebounds. Steemer was tops for the league with 66 offensive rebounds and 123 made field goals after starting in 13 of her 14 appearances in WSC action. 

Evelyn Birau and Patil Yaacoubian, both members of the Glendale squad, also collected major awards. Birau was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Year after averaging 4.0 rebounds per game and totaling six steals through WSC action. Yaacoubian was named as the Sixth Player of the Year after tallying 105 points while coming off of the bench in all but one contest during the conference slate.

Glendale's Joel Weiss was selected as the Coach of the Year for the fifth time after leading the Vaqueros to a fifth consecutive title with a spotless 14-0 record against league foes. 

2024 WSC South Women's Basketball All-Conference
