Santa Barbara & Santa Monica Share WSC Beach Volleyball Title
Santa Monica College and Santa Barbara City College have each secured a share of the Western State Conference title in beach volleyball after posting identical 11-1 league records at the conclusion of the conference slate. The two teams lost once to each other, both times in 3-2 decisions, as they split the head-to-head records.
The Vaqueros reclaimed their portion of the title with a pair of wins over Cuesta College and Moorpark College. After back-to-back runner-up finishes the past two seasons, SBCC earned a return to the top of the standings for the first time since 2021-22. The decisive moment came against Moorpark when Charlotte Wilson and Brielle Smith clinched the 3-2 team victory with a dominant performance in the fifth match, winning in straight sets 21-11, 21-12. SBCC posted a 4-1 win over Cuesta. Tana Long and Lily Husek swept both of their matches, as did Sage Thorne-Thomsen and Madelynn Papia, helping seal the title.
The Corsairs paved their path to the top with 10 consecutive victories against league foes down the stretch. Of the double-digit victories, six were notably 5-0 sweeps and only two of those spotless finishes occurred at home.
