Fox, Thorp, and Masutani Earn WSC Gold Top Honors
The 2013 Western State Conference Gold Division post-season awards were announced recently. Moorpark College’s Dave Fox was named the Coach of the Year, Ventura College’s Alexandra Thorp was named the Pitcher of the Year, and Cuesta College’s Kryn Masutani was named the Player of the Year.
The 2013 Western State Conference Gold Division post-season awards were announced recently. Moorpark College's Dave Fox was named the Coach of the Year, Ventura College's Alexandra Thorp was named the Pitcher of the Year, and Cuesta College's Kryn Masutani was named the Player of the Year.
Fox guided the Raiders to the WSC Gold crown, with a 14-4 conference mark. It was Moorpark's first conference title since 2009 and the first for Fox who is in just his second year with the program.
Thorp led the Gold Division with a conference high 114 innings pitched. Thorp was 12-4 in the circle, fanning 69 batters and posting a 2.39 ERA in conference play.
Masutani was an all-around threat for the Cougars. Masutani batted .578, drove in a league high 41 RBI's, scored a league best 32 runs, and stole 18 bags during the conference season for good measure. Masutani also slugged a league best 1.172.
