
Moorpark Claims Two of Three Top Prizes in Gold; Ventura the Other
Fresh off their 2016 Western State Conference Gold Division Championship the Moorpark College softball team claimed two of the top three prizes in the division. Moorpark’s Caitlin Vinyard was named the Pitcher of the Year, while Head Coach Dave Fox was named the Coach of the Year. Ventura College’s Julia Garcia rounded out the awards, taking home the Player of the Year nod.
Fresh off their 2016 Western State Conference Gold Division Championship the Moorpark College softball team claimed two of the top three prizes in the division. Moorpark's Caitlin Vinyard was named the Pitcher of the Year, while Head Coach Dave Fox was named the Coach of the Year. Ventura College's Julia Garcia rounded out the awards, taking home the Player of the Year nod.
Vinyard started 17 of 18 games for the Raiders in WSC Gold play, posting a 12-4 mark in the circle with a 1.27 ERA. Vinyard fanned 97 total batters in 105 innings of work, and posted a 6.47 K per game rate.
Garcia hit a blistering .549 in WSC Gold play, posting a .784 slugging percentage. Garcia scored 12 runs, drove in 18, and went on to record two doubles and five triples. In the field, Garcia was impressive, posting a .921 fielding percentage while playing short stop.
Fox meanwhile was named the Coach of the Year after helping guide the Raiders to a 14-4 mark in conference play and the program's 15th overall softball title, and first since the 2013 season.
