Bakersfield Women and Ventura Men Hang On to Lead Through Day Two

Valley Glen, CA -- The Bakersfield College Women's Swim and Ventura College Men's Swim teams continued to hang on to their leads in the team standings through day number two of the 2014 Western State Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The Renegades held a 30 point lead over LA Valley College as of day's end, while Ventura was up 34 points over Cuesta College.

The Renegades continued to blitz the competition with their consistency throughout all events. Bakersfield had just one first place finish on day two, winning the 800 Free Relay in a time of 8:16.87. Ventura likewise used their depth to keep pace with the rest of the field. The Pirates started off the day with a win in the 200 Medley Relay (1:35.05), and then got another win in the 100 Fly thanks to Nick Vallejo (50.50).

Another record fell on Friday as well. Santa Monica's Jia Ng, smashed the 100 Breastroke record which stood for just one year. Ng finished the event in a time of 54.05, 2.92 seconds faster than the record that was set just last year.
