Cuesta Men Take Fifth Straight WSC Title
SANTA MONICA, Calif. - The men's swimming and diving program at Cuesta College continues to lead the Western State Conference, after winning its 5th straight conference title and 20th crown since the program began in 1979. Second-year Coach Greg Enloe earned his second title with the Cougars, while his aqua-jocks won eight individual event titles and posted 27 individual All-Conference swims. In all, 15 members of the men's team boasted, at least, one all-conference performance. | ORIGINAL RELEASE / FULL RESULTS
Freshman Grant Huston joined Ventura's Jaiden Monroe and Pierce's Jhan Loninia as they all swept their three individual events and tied for the meet lead with 60 individual points. However, it should be noted that Huston, who holds nine Cuesta event records, entered the meet's most competitive events. He finished first over 30 swimmers in the 100-freestyle with a school record time of :44.79, before setting another school record and obliterating a field of 24 swimmers in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:38.09. He closed the event by showing off his versatility and winning the 200-individual medley by almost ten seconds (:09.38). Huston was one of five members of the team to win an individual title. Decathlete-turned-Diver Joseph Tugwell won titles off both boards, while Cuesta Record Holder Conner Rocha (pict) joined Freshmen Breaststrokers Beau Gendron and Cole Adams with one title apiece. Rocha took the 200-butterfly (1:56.40), while also taking a Silver in the 200-fly and a Bronze in the 50-freestlye. He finished 5th in the meet as an individual 52.5 points. Gendron, who won the 100-breaststroke (:58.34) also cracked the meet's Top 10 with 47 points. Adams claimed the 200-breaststroke (2:21.30), while being joined by teammates Taylor Ford and Joel Kubacki in a Cuesta medal sweep.
Cuesta Swimming and Diving shall take the rest of April off to taper for the 2025 CCCAA State Swim & Dive Championships in Santa Rosa on May 1-3.
