
BC's Neshara Smith Named as 3C2A State Championship Women's Field Athlete of the Meet
Neshara Smith of Bakersfield College was recognized as the Women's Field Athlete of the Meet after a stellar set of performances at the 3C2A State Championship, hosted by Saddleback College, on Friday and Saturday. | Complete Results
Smith was the first-day leader in the women's heptathlon with 3,112 points after four events. She took the lead at the outset with a 13.89 seconds clocking in the 100-meter hurdles for 994 points, then cleared 5 feet 3 inches in the high jump for 736 points. The Bakersfield star held a 405-point lead going into the concluding 800-meter race where she cruised to a 2:51.30 finish for just 450 points. She won the 7-event competition with 4,784 points (adding 113 to her state season lead) and finished ahead of Zharia Taylor of Cerritos (4,528) and Jocelyn Pedretti of Modesto (4,524).
Smith also took the individual crown in the long jump (6.16m) and the 100-meter hurdles (13.85) while placing fourth in the high jump (1.60m).
