Santa Monica is WSC South Leader in Women’s Soccer Awards

After winning it's first ever Western State Conference championship, the Santa Monica College Women's Soccer team took home the top two awards in the WSC South. Head Coach Aaron Benditson was named the Coach of the Year, while sophomore midfielder Josseline Espinoza was named the Player of the Year.

Benditson guided the Corsairs to a perfect 8-0 campaign in WSC South play in 2017, and a 15-3-3 mark overall. Santa Monica was seeded #9 in the 2017 CCCAA SoCal Post-Season and was knocked off in the regional quarterfinals by #8 Orange Coast in penalty kicks 3-2.

Espinoza meanwhile scored 14 goals in 2017, adding five assists for a total of 33 points which led the team. She finished one point ahead of teammate and freshman forward Daysi Serrano, who had 15 goals and a pair of assists on her way to a 1st team All-WSC South nod. Espinoza and Serrano were two of 12 All-WSC South selections for Santa Monica this year.
