The Ventura College Men's Basketball team won the 2017 Western State Conference North Division Title outright on Saturday evening. It was the Pirates second straight, and third in its last five seasons, but also a WSC best 14th conference title overall.
Ventura headed into the final night of the regular season with the knowledge that they would at least share the WSC North Championship no matter the outcome. They wouldn't need it though, as they came out focussed and on fire connecting on 46.9% of their attempts from the floor, forcing their opponent into nearly twice as many turnovers as they committed, and out-rebounding host Santa Barbara City College 44-32. It was their first outright title since 2013.
The Pirates will be the lone representative for the WSC North in post-season action as they drew the #18 overall seed and will head to #15 Irvine Valley College for a 7:00 PM showdown on Wednesday February 22nd. The winner of that contest will take on #2 overall seed El Camino College-Compton Center Saturday night at 7:00 PM.
