After winning the program's first conference title since 2008, the Santa Monica College Women's Basketball program was rewarded with the top two honors in the Western State Conference South Division post-season awards. Head Coach Lydia Strong, in her 15th season with the program, was named the Coach of the Year, while sophomore forward Lauren Davis was named the Player of the Year.

Davis appeared in and started in all 28 games for the Corsairs in 2016-2017. Davis led the team in points (22.2 ppg), and rebounds 11.4 (rpg), while shooting 42% from the floor and 31.3% from downtown. Davis posted 15 double-doubles on the season, and recorded 20 boards three separate times throughout the year.

Strong meanwhile led the Corsairs to a 19-9 overall record and 7-1 mark in WSC South play. It's the second time that Strong has been named the WSC South Coach of the Year, after she earned the honors in 2008. Strong also has her Corsairs in the post-season for the second time in the last three years.
