Los Angeles Valley College Rebecca Islas and 8th year Head Coach Monica Hang were named the Western State Conference East Division Women's Basketball Player and Coach of the Year on Sunday. Islas is the 9th Player of the Year to hail from LA Valley College, while it's the fourth time Hang has been named Coach of the Year while helming the Monarchs

Islas led the entire Western State Conference in scoring averaging 22.9 points per game during the 2017-2018 season. Islas also finished in fourth place in the WSC in rebounding hauling in 11.1 boards a contest. Islas was just one of two Monarchs to start all 29 games for LA Valley this past season, shooting 43.7% from the floor and 77.4% from the charity stripe.

Hang meanwhile was in charge of the first team in the WSC either men's or women's to clinch a WSC crown this past season, and the only team to keep an unblemished record in conference play. The Monarchs finished the 2017-2018 regular season 21-8 overall and a perfect 10-0 in WSC East play. LA Valley earned the #8 overall seed in this week's CCCAA SoCal Playoffs and will host #9 Moorpark College on Friday night.
