The Ventura College and Moorpark College Women's Basketball teams, the top two teams in the Western State Conference North Division in 2018, split the top honors in the WSC North on Sunday. Ventura College sophomore forward Davina Del Castillo and Moorpark College freshman center Barbara Rangel were named the Players of the Year, while longtime VC Head Coach Ned Mircetic shared Coach of the Year honors with third year head man Kenny Plummer of Moorpark.

Del Castillo, a 1st-team All-WSC North selection as a freshman, was the second-leading scorer for the top team in the North in the Pirates. Del Castillo averaged 12.7 points a game and added 10.7 rebounds a contest for good measure. Del Castillo did so while shooting 44.2% from the floor and 33% from downtown. Del Castillo also averaged 2.7 steals and 2.1 assists per game, more than rounding out her game.

Rangel her first year collegiate campaign second in the entire WSC in rebounds and third in field goal percentage. Rangel averaged 15.6 points, 12.8 boards, and four blocks a game in 2017-2018. Rangel did so while converting 53.5% of her shots from the floor.

For Mircetic it's the 12th time he's been named Coach of the Year in the WSC North. Mircetic led the Pirates to an unprecedented 28th straight WSC North title, finishing the season 23-7 overall and 9-1 in WSC North play. Ventura earned the #5 overall seed in the 2018 SoCal Post-Season and will host #12 Cypress College on Friday night.

Plummer meanwhile earned the nod for the second straight season. After leading the Raiders to their first 20 win season in 2016-2017, he followed that up by guiding Moorpark to a 21-6 mark this past year, including an 8-2 record in WSC North play. That 8-2 record involved a 56-55 win at Ventura College towards the end of the season, Moorpark's first in 27 years.
