LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Bakersfield College men's cross country team closed the regular season with the 2023 Western State Conference Men's Cross Country Champion title after a pair of stellar performances at the end of the fall season. | PREVIEW RESULTS, FINALS RESULTS
Programs across the league competed in two scoring events to determine a champion. The first, hosted by Oxnard at the end of September, was the WSC Preview Meet and counted as one-third of the points for the final standings. The second event, hosted by LA Mission last Friday, served as the WSC Finals Meet and equated to two-thirds of the overall score. The champion at the conclusion of the two events was the team with the lowest combined total of placement points.
Bakersfield finished at the top of the standings for the first time since 1993 while having five individuals take the top seven spots in the four mile race. Nathanael Rodriguez led the way for the Renegades with a final time of 21:49.9 while by fellow teammate Jacob Perez (21:58.4) finished as the runner-up. Anthony Erikson (22:06.8) of Cuesta took third, followed by Glendale's Ezequiel Soto (4th / 22:11.8) and BC's Jaden Hart (5th / 22:16.5).
Racers who finished in the top-14 on the day earned First Team All-Conference honors, while those who finished 15-28 received Second Team All-Conference recognition and racers placing 29-40 were tabbed as Honorable Mention selections. Official qualifiers for the SoCal Championship event will be announced by the state office.
