Glendale Takes 18th Consecutive WSC Women's Cross Country Title, VC's Godina Finishes First

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Glendale College closed the regular season with the 2023 Western State Conference Women's Cross Country Champion title after a pair of top performances at the end of the fall season. This marks the 18th straight conference title for the program, dating back to the start of the streak in 2005, and 25th in conference history. | PREVIEW RESULTS / FINALS RESULTS

Programs across the league competed in two scoring events to determine a champion. The first, hosted by Oxnard at the end of September, was the WSC Preview Meet and counted as one-third of the points for the final standings. The second event, hosted by LA Mission last Friday, served as the WSC Finals Meet and equated to two-thirds of the overall score. The champion at the conclusion of the two events was the team with the lowest combined total of placement points.

Glendale finished at the top of the standings in both events to secure the title while having three individuals finish in the top 10. Ventura's Sophia Godina crossed the finish line first on the individual level with a final time of 17:38.4. GC's Samantha Medrano (17:44.3) and Allan Hancock's Itandehui Olea (18:29.6) followed in second and third, respectively. The top five individual racers were rounded out by Glendale's Lizeth Sanchez (4th / 18:38.0) and VC's Brianna Torres (18:45.6).

Racers who finished in the top-14 on the day earned First Team All-Conference honors, while those who finished 15-28 received Second Team All-Conference recognition and racers placing 29-40 were tabbed as Honorable Mention selections. Official qualifiers for the SoCal Championship event will be announced by the state office.
