Santa Barbara City College 5'10 freshman wing Destinee King was named the Western State Conference North Division Player of the Year this past weekend. In addition, Oxnard College Head Coach Ron McClurkin was tabbed as the WSC North Coach of the Year.
King had a fantastic freshman campaign, as the only Vaquero to start all 28 games for SBCC. King averaged a double-double on the year at 18 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. King also averaged 1.5 blocks, and 1.9 steals a contest, while shooting 44.2% from the floor. King is just the third WSC MVP in Santa Barbara's history, and is the first since the 2006 season.
McClurkin meanwhile, led his Condor crew to a 15-9 overall record and 8-4 mark in WSC North play, good for a second place finish. It was their best finish since 2010 when the Condors went 14-11, and their most wins since 1996, when they went 19-12. It's his first Coach of the Year award as a Women's Basketball Head Coach, and his third overall having won twice as a Men's Basketball Head Coach.
