
SBCC Claims 10th Consecutive Women's Water Polo Title
GLENDORA, Calif. - The women's water polo team for Santa Barbara City College secured the Western State Conference crown for a 10th consecutive season in Glendora. The Vaqueros were successful against Ventura in the semifinal round on Friday with a final score of 21-5 before beating the hosting Owls from Citrus College, 14-6, in the championship showdown. | ORIGINAL RELEASE
SBCC now boasts an overall record of 28-5 and boasted a spotless 5-0 record against WSC foes in the regular season. This extends the program's active win streak against conference opponents to 66 consecutive victories, a streak that dates back to 2015.
In the semis, the Vaqueros put on a stellar defensive performance that kept the Pirates scoreless through the first half of action. Santa Barbara had nine different players contribute to the final score, led by Addie Lane's five goals, while Kate Densmore registered eight blocks in the cage.
In the championship game, SBCC held the lead after the first three minutes and never looked back. Cate Daland led the offensive effort with four goals while drawing five ejections. Lily Carrick also made waves with seven assists, which tied a single-game program record.
Four teams will represent the conference at the SoCal Regional Tournament, led by the No. 3-seeded Vaqueros. Other WSC members to qualify for the tournament are No. 5 Citrus, No. 7 Cuesta, and No. 10 Ventura. To view the full bracket, click here.
