After claiming the 2023 Western State Conference (North) title, Santa Monica College collected three major superlative awards while placing five individuals on the First Team All-Conference list.
Tim Pierce was selected as the Coach of the Year after leading the Corsairs to their second title in recent history after the program finished the conference slate with an unbeaten record of 8-0-1 in the WSC North. Freshman Philip Hephzibah was selected as the Co-Offensive Player of the Year after tallying 20 points against league foes. The London native notched nine goals and two assists through league play en route to a 21-goal season. SMC's Josh McCowan joined him on the list of superlative honorees with a Co-Defensive Player of the Year nod. The freshman from Venice played a critical role for the defense as the Corsairs recorded a 0.70 goals-against average and four shutouts against conference opponents.
LA Mission's Justin Gonzalez was also tabbed as the Co-Offensive Player of the Year after registering 14 goals and one assist in conference play. The Granada Hills Charter High School alum finished his sophomore campaign with a final total of 26 goals and four assists. He is joined by fellow Eagle, Jose Mendiola, on the list of major award winners. Mendiola was selected as the Goalie of the Year after collecting 60 saves and recording three shutouts in league play.
Oxnard's Emmanuel Solis rounded out the list of winners with the Co-Defensive Player of the Year title. The sophomore defender helped the Condors secure three shutouts while allowing just 10 goals during their conference slate.
