Moorpark Secures Outright Title in Regular Season Finale
MOORPARK, Calif. - The Moorpark College men's basketball team secured the Western State Conference (North) title for a second consecutive season after topping LA Pierce College, 117-81, on the road in the regular season finale.
The hosting Brahmas raced out to a 2-0 lead with the Raiders tying it almost immediately. From that point on it was all Moorpark as the visiting crew went on a 71-34 first half run. The second half was played evenly with the Raiders clearing the bench to get significant minutes for the reserves en route to the 36-point victory.
Moorpark secured at least a share of the title one game earlier in a thrilling 98-83 victory at home against Oxnard College on Sophomore Day. That contest featured seven ties and two lead changes as the programs went toe-to-toe in the opening half, but MC secured the victory with an explosive 21-3 run as play resumed following the halftime break.
The Raiders closed out the regular season with an overall record of 20-8 while going 10-2 against conference foes. They earned an automatic spot in the postseason bracket and were tabbed as the No. 7 seed in the Southern California Regional Tournament. Other WSC North members to earn postseason appearances are No. 14 Allan Hancock and No. 18 Cuesta.
