Citrus Secures Clinch Third Straight Conference Championship
The Citrus College men's basketball team secured the Western State Conference (South) Championship title for a third consecutive season, and the seventh time in eight seasons, after a 125-101 victory over Glendale College in the regular season finale.
The Owls put up over 100 points for the 13th straight game to win their 20th consecutive game on Sophomore Night. The visiting Vaqueros kept the game interesting in the first five minutes as both teams struggled to score but Citrus found their form after a slow start. The Owls went 18-of-37 from the field and 6-of-19 from beyond the arc in the first half and forced 13 GC turnovers to take a 57-42 lead into halftime.
Citrus caught fire in the second half, shooting 65% from the field while knocking down 8-of-16 three-pointers. The Owls forced 10 more turnovers in the second half which contributed to Citrus outscoring Glendale 36-17 in points off turnovers in the game. The Owls outscored the Vaqueros 58-36 in points in the paint, 21-6 in fastbreak points, and 62-14 in bench points on the night. Citrus went up by 31 points with less than three minutes in the game to secure the undefeated conference record.
Citrus ends the regular season with a 26-2 record overall while going a perfect 14-0 showing against league foes. They earned an automatic spot in the postseason bracket and were tabbed as the No. 2 seed in the Southern California Regional Tournament. Other WSC South members to earn postseason appearances are No. 8 West LA and No. 16 Santa Monica.
