
Santa Monica Secures WSC South Title with Unbeaten League Record
The men's soccer team at Santa Monica College picked up a second consecutive Western State Conference conference title, and first in the South Division, after racing through the league slate with an undefeated record of 10-0. The Corsairs closed the regular season with an overall record of 17-2-3 en route to the squad's third title since 2018.
A traditional point system is used to determine the conference champion each season. Per the WSC constitution and soccer supplement, teams will receive three points per conference win and one point per conference/divisional tie.
The Corsairs were led by Javier Mendoza in scoring sophomore forward registered 40 points with 14 goals and 12 assists on the season. Philip Hephzibah followed with 38 points after registering 12 goals and 14 assists, while Gabe Mejia rounded out the top offensive threats with 11 goals and 11 helpers.
Freshman keeper Pedro Zafra led SMCC in the box with 15 starts in 18 appearances. He and follow goalie, Alexis Hernandez, each collected 28 saves on the season.
