
SBCC Secures First Outright WSC North Crown Since 2019
The Santa Barbara City College women's soccer program clinched the Western State Conference (North) title in the second to last game of the league slate after defeating Oxnard in a 5-2 decision. Despite falling to LA Pierce College in the regular season finale, the Vaqueros managed to secure the first outright title since 2019 - and the seventh title overall - with a final record of 10-1-1 against WSC foes. | ORIGINAL RELEASE
A traditional point system is used to determine the conference champion each season. Per the WSC constitution and soccer supplement, teams will receive three points per conference win and one point per conference/divisional tie.
The Vaqueros are averaging 2.38 goals per game while surrendering an average of just 1.26. Sophomore forward Alyssa Placido has led the way offensively with 15 goals and 34 points thus far. Cara Christopherson has followed with 10 netted shots while Kacey Renga boasts a team-best mark of 14 assists. Anna Kirk has led SBCC in the box with four shutouts and 37 saves en route to a 6-0-1 record in the box.
Santa Barbara has automatically qualified for the Southern California Regional Tournament, which is set to begin on November 20th and will end on November 30th. Two teams will advance from the SoCal Regional bracket to the 3C2A State Championship showdown on December 6th and 8th. Official qualifiers and seeding information will be announced on the 3C2ASports.org website.
