Santa Monica Repeats as WSC South Champion
The Santa Monica College women's soccer program secured the Western State Conference (South) title for a second consecutive season, marking the fourth crown in program history a second back-to-back run on record ('17 & '18). The Corsairs secured the top league spot with four wins and three ties through the final seven matches. They now hold an overall record of 15-3-3 and boast a 10-1-3 mark against WSC foes.
A traditional point system is used to determine the conference champion each season. Per the WSC constitution and soccer supplement, teams will receive three points per conference win and one point per conference/divisional tie.
As a team, the Corsairs have averaged 2.19 goals per game while notching a goals-against average of 0.39 with 13 shutouts through 21 games. Freshman Karla Torres has led the way for SMCC with 16 points on eight goals thus far, followed by five goals and one assist (11 points) from sophomore forward Jacky Hernandez.
Santa Monica has automatically qualified for the Southern California Regional Tournament, which is set to begin on November 20th and will end on November 30th. Two teams will advance from the SoCal Regional bracket to the 3C2A State Championship showdown on December 6th and 8th. Official qualifiers and seeding information will be announced on the 3C2ASports.org website
