Women's Volleyball: Santa Monica and Bakersfield Split WSC South Title

Santa Monica College and Bakersfield College each secured a share of the 2023 Western State Conference (South) women's volleyball title after turning in 11-1 records versus league foes at the conclusion of the regular season. Their lone conference loss came against each other after splitting in a pair of five-set thrillers during the regular season. 

The Corsairs secured half of the title after a convincing 25-4, 25-17, 25-15 sweep over Antelope Valley College. Head Coach Christian Cammayo propelled the team to a remarkable 10-game winning streak down the stretch to clinch the title split. SMC's Sophia Odle is currently ranked fourth amongst all 3C2A competitors with 0.82 service aces per set. 

The Renegades secured their share of the crown with a 25-21, 25-14, 25-14 sweep of Glendale College at the Gil Bishop Sports Center. BC's Haley Tedrow is second amongst all state competitors with 1.36 blocks per set while Kya Jones is ranked third after an average of 5.74 digs per set. 

Both teams have qualified for the Southern California Regional Tournament, which will begin on November 18th. Santa Monica was tabbed as the No. 10 seed with an overall record of 21-7, earning an automatic bye through the first round, and will travel to No. 7 Cypress College. Bakersfield was tabbed as the No. 15 seed and will host No. 18 Cerritos College in the opening round. To view the full bracket, click here.
