Women's Volleyball: Three Teams Tie for WSC North Championship

Three women's volleyball programs split the title in the race for the 2023 Western State Conference (North) crown. Moorpark College, Santa Barbara City College, and Ventura College clinched the split after registering 8-2 records against league foes. 

Ventura secured their share after defeating LA Mission College - 23-25, 25-13, 25-17, 25-12. This marked the third straight year and the fourth time in the past five seasons for the program. VC's Kayla Murdoch is currently ranked second amongst all 3C2A opponents with 4.82 kills per set, along with Autumn Rojelio's No. 2 ranking of 5.78 digs per set. 

Santa Barbara's piece of the title was locked in after a clean sweep (25-17, 25-17, 25-17) on the road at Cuesta College, securing the team's the second time in the last three years. Moorpark clinched the crown after a sweep (25-14, 25-19, 25-13) after traveling to LA Pierce College. 

All three programs have qualified for the Southern California Regional Tournament, which will begin on November 18th. The Pirates will enter playoffs as the top-ranked team out of the WSCN after claiming the No. 2 seed with an overall record of 19-3 and will host the winner of the No. 15 Bakersfield/No. 18 Cerritos match. Moorpark also earned a bye through the first round with the No. 11 seed after turning in an overall record of 15-8 and will travel to No. 6 Rio Hondo. The No. 16-seeded Vaqueros (15-10) will host No. 17 East LA in the first round. The winner of that contest will travel to No. 1 San Diego Mesa. Click here to view the full bracket.
